A speech given by President Jay L. Nelson at the funeral for Parker M. Pratt, a former Auto Mechanics instructor at the Salt Lake Area Vocational School. Pratt continued his association with the College from 1949 until his retirement in 1972 (when the College was known as Utah Technical College). Attached are the funeral service program, a photograph of Parker Pratt, an Interoffice Memo (May 15, 1972) from Jay L. Nelson regarding Mr. Pratt's selection as an Outstanding Teacher to be honored by the Salt Lake Kiwanis Club, and a letter from Jay L. Nelson to Mr. Pratt regarding his retirement from the College.

Burton A. Talmage Memorial Service

Remarks made by President Jay L. Nelson at the funeral of Burton A. Talmage on June 19, 1984. The speech includes remarks about Talmage's responsibilities at Salt Lake Vocational School, SLTTI, and Trade Tech, his unique personal traits, and tributes to Burt. Talmage began his career at the College as Manager of the Bookstore at SLAVS. Slowly more and more responsibilities were added to his position culminating in the positions of Vice President for Promotion and Development as well as Vice President for Business.

Richard "Don" Wellard Funeral Remarks

During the first evaluation of instructors conducted at the College, Wellard was one of two instructors were selected as an outstanding teacher and recognized by the state board for vocational education.

The speech covers briefly the history of the College from when its appropriation was vetoed by the Governor of Utah and it almost closed through to the creation of the Redwood Road Campus. The primary theme of the speech is the relationship between Liberal Arts Education and vocational or "Practical" Education.
